Full Catalogue Entry Lot 106: RARE 1950'S JOSEFF OF HOLLYWOOD PENDANT - Joseff of Hollywood was commissioned to create 1,000 of these silver metal pendant and chain necklaces, to be given to the cast and production crew of the 1947 film "Sinbad the Sailor." Concave round silver metal pendant (2-1/8" diam.) features a goldtone boat relief, rough surface, with applied Arabic characters and a star with central rhinestone, suspended from a long silver metal chain (25.5"L) of double-linked silver and copper ovals, with jump ring clasp. Tab on back of pendant "Joseff". Ca.1948. Condition good.

Comprised of eight separate pieces of individually made porcelain of the ironstone type. One upright is marked with one of the rarest marks that Mason Ironstone used, identified as Mark 2542 in Geoffrey Godden; "Encyclopedia of British Pottery and Porcelain Marks". This mark dates the fireplace 1825-37. Note; Very few produced, mostly made to order from a pattern book. Condition good; some cracks and minor chips; one top of mantel section (yellowish cast) is likely a replacement. Housed in ornate gold frame, signed at bottom right. 32" x 36" x 4". Berendsen is a late 20th century artist who after military service in native Holland relocated to Whidbey Island, WA and continued to paint for private collectors until his recent death.

Full Catalogue Entry Lot 145: JOHN LINNELL (1792-1882, United Kingdom) IN THE CORNFIELD - Oil on canvas composition of fieldworkers at lunchtime with a woman bringing the dog and children to visit. A bloodied animal skin is visible in the foreground and groups of people are reaping with sickles in the background. A man is drinking from a small cask with a little girl sitting close to the other man at rest. Signed "J Linnell" in the bottom right corner with a faded year next to it - most likely post 1840. Oil and canvas are in excellent condition for its age with no craquelure or blemishes visible in the work; yellowing of the varnish occurring. Painting is continuous under UV light and there is no evidence of restoration or repair. Canvas is nailed to wood stretcher. Reframed in Vancouver. Work measures 13.5"L x 17.5"W; frame measures 20"L x 24"W.

Provenance labeled on verso: Originally owned by 1st Earl of Wharncliffe, Edward Montagu-Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie; obtained by Hon. F Baring in 1893 (most likely 2nd Earl of Northbrook Francis George Baring); obtained by R. Manly Foster in 1919; purchased from the Carroll Gallery by Dr. M. H. Garvin of Winnipeg (a noted Canadian periodontist); given to Fred & Ruth Lang by the widow of Dr. Garvin in 1986; inherited by current owner.

Full Catalogue Entry Lot 155: VINTAGE JOSEFF OF HOLLYWOOD JEWELRY SMALL SUITE - Created by "Joseff" and a costume jewelry collectors' item of limited production, the necklace and earrings commemorate the making of the movie "Jungle Book" and feature elephants, brass drops, multicolor rhinestone 'jewels', and amber cabochons. The 'old gold' tone metal necklace is featured in "Jewelry of the Stars, Creations of Joseff of Hollywood," on page 144. The rope chain necklace has hanging from it 4 scimitar shapes and 3 jewel and pearl embellished elephant heads (1-5/8" x 2" with 3" drop). "Joseff" mark on elephant. Two elephant heads are the earrings. ca. 1966. Condition good. 19.5"L.
