Full Catalogue Entry Lot 70: RARE MASONS & CO IRONSTONE FIREPLACE SURROUND - Done in the Cantonese style/pattern. Comprised of eight separate pieces of individually made porcelain of the ironstone type. One upright is marked with one of the rarest marks that Mason Ironstone used, identified as Mark 2542 in Geoffrey Godden; "Encyclopedia of British Pottery and Porcelain Marks". This mark dates the fireplace 1825-37. Note; Very few produced, mostly made to order from a pattern book. Condition good; some cracks and minor chips; one top of mantel section (yellowish cast) is likely a replacement. Each has scrolling pattern around lip edge and diaper pattern around base. Red enamel is very blown out with green spots within the designs and a grey and red outline fading outwards. Other condition good. Six character mark on foot of each. In red and goldenrod fabric covered box with black interior. Each is 2.5"H x 4.5" diameter.
